LiveMUM : FAQ's
General Some CAD systems offer
move-up recommendations, so why is LiveMUM so different?
LiveMUM takes into account all unique combinations of units existing
at any given instance of time to make move-up recommendations. LiveMUM
listens to CAD in real-time, and uses the extensive analysis of Deccan’s
deployment module - ADAM, to identify coverage problem areas on the fly, and
assists with the most appropriate unit recommendation for the current
conditions. Thus, LiveMUM not only removes any guess work in move-up
recommendations, but provides the dispatcher with the most optimal move-up
rationale to ensure balanced coverage needs. What is the
difference between Systems Status Management (SSM) and Move-Up Module
(LiveMUM)?
While SSM is premised on a limited set of pre-plans developed and
supplied by users, LiveMUM calculates (after learning from historical CAD
data) optimal move-ups on the fly based on the real-time availability and
location of units.
As a result:
- While SSM needs the user to gamble valuable man-hours on prospective
locations that may prove unworthy and which also need to be regularly
updated, LiveMUM needs minimal work from the user.
- There are fewer and more effective move-ups with LiveMUM because it avoids
the many unnecessary move-ups that are suggested by SSM.
- Finally, only LiveMUM has the ability to calculate and display
easy-to-understand color-coded maps of real-time coverage holes. This
display greatly assists dispatchers to quickly ascertain if move-ups are
truly needed in the first place, and if so to decide on the more effective
move-up.
Interface and Configuration
Will LiveMUM work with our existing CAD?
LiveMUM is a stand-alone application that can interface with any CAD
system. Deccan performs the initial functions to set up an interface between
LiveMUM and the existing CAD for real-time applications.
Does LiveMUM use AVL data?
While AVL data is not required to run LiveMUM, the application can
intelligently use AVL information to make move-up recommendations. LiveMUM
constantly polls unit’s X/Y coordinates to determine if it is moving, and
when the unit stops, LiveMUM temporarily assigns the unit to its nearest
post/station to make move-up decisions.
System Requirements
What are the hardware specifications for use of the applications?
Since LiveMUM is tailored to data in your service area, it will only be
usable by your department. However, as of now, the applications run on top
of a mapping software called MapInfo. Whenever you install LiveMUM on a
machine, you would have to have MapInfo installed on that machine also.
Please contact MapInfo Corporation to find out pricing information. We are
in the process of porting our applications from MapInfo to the ESRI
platform. We have been advised by ESRI that when the porting is completed,
for all those clients who have purchased MapInfo, their copies will be
replaced by ESRI equivalent at no additional cost to the department.
The hardware specifications are as follows:
Desktop Computer:
800 Mhz Pentium III processor or better
512 Megs of RAM
Minimal 20G Hard Drive
21" Monitor
Laptop Computer:
500 Mhz processor or better
256 Megs of RAM
Display capable of 1024x768 resolution
(We are assuming that the Desktop computer will be
used to do the analysis and the Laptop will be used to make presentations.) The processor and 512MB RAM is needed to ensure that re-deployment analysis
can be completed quickly for any new scenario. Typically, a deployment
analysis session could generate over 40 scenarios. The 21" Super VGA monitor
is needed to display the entire response area without scrolling.
